The 600,000 square-foot auction house and offices building called for a 400,000 square-foot expansion and renovation of the existing Sotheby’s facility at 72nd Street and York Avenue.  The new building is organized around a 150 foot high façade-atrium.  The emphasis of the design was to dramatically increase the amount of natural light in the facility while protecting the artwork and heirlooms within through an artful combination of transparent and translucent glass panels
